The LAKELAND fells offer incomparable views over  the  Lake District National Park.There are Gentler walks for the inexperienced or those with young families, as well as the major climbs for the more energetic.

LEIGHTON HALL, the home of the Gillow furniture  making family, contains fine examples of early  Gillow work, notable paintings and an interesting collection of English and French clocks. Guided  tours are available and may be followed by a visit to  the tea-rooms before taking in the spectacular sight  of the eagles flying. It is currently home to the largest collection of trained birds of prey in the  North of England. Holker Hall at Cark in Cartmel, the former home of the Duke of Devonshire offers visitors the opportunity to explore the Hall, with its historic paintings and unusual furniture. The gardens boast many and unusual shrubs and trees. Special events are held on many weekends,a day out for all the family.
 

CARNFORTH Nearest Town.  Excellent supermarket (BOOTHS) with free car park.
Few shops and take-away food restaurants.  Banks and Building Societies.  Railway Station.

OVER KELLET
Nearest village.  General Store/Post Office.  Pub - Eagles Head.  Contender in the Best kept Village Competition.

SILVERDALE/ARNSIDE
Excellent Birdwatching Area.  Leighton Moss Reserve (RSPB).
Leighton Hall - Historic Home of the Gillow Family.
Wolf House Gallery - Fine Arts/Crafts.
Coastal Walks.
Car Parking not usually a problem.

LANCASTER
Castle and Priory - Organised tours daily.
Ashton Memorial and Butterfly House all set inside Williamson Park.
Maritime Museum.
Lancaster Canal - Boat trips.
Large Shopping Centre.
Many car parks throughout the town.

MORECAMBE & HEYSHAM
Seaside Resort.  Beautiful Bay/Lake Vista.
Cinema, Ten Pin Bowling can both be recommended.
Typical seaside shops, bars and Cafe's.
Stone Jetty
Festival Market.
Car Parking easy to find.
Visit St Peters Church at Heysham.  Thousand Year old Church and reputed landing sight of St Patrick. Ancient Tombs and Monuments.

KENDAL
Picturesque Lakeland market Town
Museums & Castle.
Shops & Cobbled Alleys.
K Shopping Village (Factory Outlet).  Free Car Parking.
Many car parks throughout the Town.

INGLETON
Waterfalls - 41/2 mile walk covering both sides of falls. Olde World Village.
Caves - Organised Tours.
Car parking not usually a problem.

CLAPHAM
Stunning Village set around a River.
Good Pubs/Cafes.
Lovely walk (approx. 2 miles) up to the Ingleborough Caves - Organised Tours. Further walk (approx. 1 1/2 miles) to Gaping Gill.
Clapham is about 45 mins from here in a car off the Kirby Lonsdale to Skipton Road.
Large Car park in centre of Village.

SETTLE
Yorkshire Market Town about 5 mins in car further on than Clapham.
Settle to Carlisle railway is renowned for its magnificent scenery.

WINDERMERE/BOWNESS
Main tourist area.  Very busy throughout the year.  Car parking difficult and expensive.
Boat Trip on large steamships strongly recommended.
Various shops in both Windermere and Bowness.
Lakeland Plastics - well known mail order company is situated by Windermere Railway Station.

KIRKBY LONSDALE
Quaint Lakeland Market Town.
Very nice Shops, Pubs and Cafe's.
Victorian Weekend - first weekend in September every year is very popular.
Car Parking can be difficult in the town centre but you can usually park at Devils Bridge which is only a short walk away from the Town Centre,especially via the scenic river route which takes you through the old churchyard.
Devils Bridge favourite beauty spot.
Very good walking area.
